Philip Pullman — best know for his Dark Materials series — has written a new edition of the Brothers Grimm stories, called Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm: A New English Version. It’s the 200th anniversary of the Grimm collection, and Pullman’s edition includes author’s notes and

I saw him read from it in Oxford last spring. It was wonderful

RJ Palacio’s new book Wonder is a middle-grades novel about August (“Auggie”), a young boy born with severe facial abnormalities who, at the age of 10, leaves the safety of his parents’ homeschooling and begins attending a New York private school. August has cleft palate, no cheekbones,…

indeed wonderful!

You can’t tell me this isn’t the sickest shit.  It’s easily one of the single most gorgeous books I’ve ever owned (yes, even next to my Absolute Sandman comic books). Everything about it is stunning, inside and out.  It’s a little used (presumably from the previous owner), but nothing a little bit of TLC won’t resolve. I am drop dead in love.

Goodness I can’t thank the crew enough for getting this for me. ;0;

I love that this edition is out in the world, and making people happy.

these days i live on takeout food that i don’t really have the money for, hours and hours of painting maps that won’t lead anyone anywhere but in circles around my brain, last week tonight with john oliver videos, novels that are definitely about his world but not really but actually yes (haruki murakami’s kafka on the shore, neil gaiman’s the ocean at the end of the lane), music without words (zoe keating, rachel grimes, ryuichi sakamoto, steve reich, julia kent), and online games of scrabble. my fingers are constantly stained with black ink, and sometimes i look into the bathroom mirror before i go to sleep much later than i had planned to, finding streaks of black ink on my face where i scratched my eyelid. it’s the fabulous one-sided smokey eye look of a city hermit, dressed in leggings with baggy knees, old sweaters with paint stains on the sleeves and mismatched wool socks. here’s hoping that these days will be followed by others, where i will proof to not only myself in these four walls that i still exist, but possibly also to other people out there in this world filled with what are always too many people, doing their own private people things, staining their hands and faces and sweaters with black ink, or chocolate, or whatever else is their preferred substance to dive into. This is how you grow nice and tall, This is how you grow nice and tall, milo sings on the only record with lyrics i listen to these days. i certainly hope so.
